How it runs
We start from the decisions rather than the data. Which question, asked how often, by whom, and what they would do differently depending on the answer. A dashboard that answers no particular question gets opened twice.
Then the pipeline: pulling from the systems you run, reconciling the places where two of them disagree, and refreshing it on a schedule that matches how the decision is made.
The reconciling is most of the work and is rarely budgeted for. Two systems that both hold customers will not agree on how many there are, and the useful part of the exercise is often finding out why.
What it costs to get wrong
A report that is wrong once is worse than no report, because after that nobody trusts the right ones either. Every figure we publish traces back to where it came from and when it last refreshed, so a number that looks wrong can be checked rather than argued about.
